WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology is a holistic complementary, therapy that the Egyptians
and the Western world used for thousands of years.
The theory of Reflexology is that there are pressure points at the
end of feet, hands, and face, which mirror the body's organs, nervous
system and circulatory system, a ‘Map’.
The Physical Therapist Eunice Ingham,(1930), pioneered ‘Zone
Therapy’ which is still practiced in today's treatments.
Pressure techniques using thumbs and fingers are employed by the Reflexologist
to stimulate pressure points. These are referred to as ‘Zones’. By
opening the Zones the aim of the treatment is to help open up the
pathways, unblocking passages, and thereby encourage self
healing and restore the body's natural well-being.
Reflexology tends to be practiced on clients' feet due to evidence
that feet are very responsive to the treatment. However, hands can
be just as effective if feet cannot be worked on due to injury or a
disliking of your feet being touched.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT
A brief medical history will be taken at your first treatment.
A session is usually for 75 minutes for the first treatment, and then 45 minutes for subsequent treatments.
You will remain fully clothed and asked, to take off your shoes and socks. You will be requested to sit on the Reflexology chair / treatment table which enables the therapist to have easy access to your feet to carry out the treatment.
